How to Clean Windows Like a Pro

Sparkling clean windows can make your home or business feel airier, lighter, more spacious, and overall more comfortable or/and professional. But window cleaning is no easy task. If you’re ready to dive into window cleaning, here are some tips for cleaning windows like a pro—

Choose the Right Cleaner

The first thing to think about is the type of cleaner you want to use. Try to avoid harsh chemical cleaners, which can be dangerous to inhale, dangerous if they come into contact with your skin, and bad for the earth. Instead, use a natural cleaner that’s highly rated, or consider a simple solution of one part white vinegar to two parts water, which is natural and effective. 

Choose the Right Cleaning Material/Cloth

Before you start with the vinegar solution mentioned above (or another cleaning solution of your choice), you should first wipe down the windows and frames with a clean microfiber cloth or sponge to remove any loose dirt and debris. This is especially important if it’s been a while since you last cleaned the windows and they are really dirty. If you don’t do this first, you’ll just spend more time and energy trying to wipe them clean once you apply the solution.

Once you spray your cleaning solution, you can use a dry towel or you can also use newspapers for a streak-free shine. If your windows are very dirty, you may need to do this step (applying the solution and wiping dry) twice. 

Clean Windows Inside and Out

Cleaning your windows inside is a lot easier than trying to do windows from the outside. However, if you really want your windows to sparkle, you should clean the outside of the windows, too. You can use a power washer to do this. 

Don’t Forget the Window Screens

Finally, don’t forget to clean your window screens! You can rinse the screens with water or with the vinegar and water solution you used to clean the windows. Just be sure to rinse with pure water when you’re finished, and wait until the screens are completely dry before re-installing them.
