Munster Vinyl Siding

Munster Vinyl Siding

When you are considering siding options for your new home or looking to replace the siding on your current home, you have a lot to consider. Wooden siding is beautiful, but it also requires a lot of maintenance on your part and can be quite expensive. Some homeowners choose engineered wood, a resin-coated wood composite to emulate the look of wooden siding. Other opt for fiber cement siding, a flame resistant and strong siding option that can also require a substantial amount of maintenance. After researching all of their siding options, many homeowners choose vinyl siding because of its durability, low maintenance, and low cost.

What to Know Before you Start your Siding Project

Vinyl siding is less expensive to install than most other siding options. For the average two-story house, a homeowner can expect to pay between $6,000 and $13,000 to install vinyl. The exact cost the homeowner faces depends on a few different factors, such as:

  • The size of the house;
  • The style of siding he or she chose;
  • Whether old siding has to be removed before installing the new siding; and
  • Whether the house has irregularly shaped or sized exterior areas that need to be covered.

Once your vinyl siding is installed, it will be fairly durable. However, it will need to be cleaned as dust and grime accumulate. You can do this yourself with your garden hose. When the dirt becomes thick, you can clean it off with a mixture of vinegar and water on a scrub brush.

Vinyl siding is manufactured to have durable colors, but they do not last forever. Over time, the sun’s rays could cause your colors to fade.

Types of Vinyl Siding

Vinyl siding is more than the boring pastel and beige horizontal slats of your youth. Today, vinyl siding is available in a variety of rich colors and different styles. A few examples of siding styles include:

  • Cedar shingles. Also known as “shakes,” this type of siding emulates wooden shingles. It can give your home a rustic, natural look;
  • Board and batten. This style alternates wide and narrow boards, giving the home a traditional farmhouse appearance. When it is used with darker colors, it can emulate the look of a cabin;
  • Beaded seam. With this type of siding, rounded beads between the horizontal boards cast shadows across them, creating a traditional, colonial look; and
  • Smooth panels. A homeowner can also choose vertical or horizontal panels that run flush with each other, giving the home’s exterior a smooth appearance.
